I had never been to Valencia before so I was really looking forward to this mini-break. We arrived on Friday afternoon and our first very pleasant surprise was the cool apartment we rented online. It was located right behind the cathedral and was just insane (kitchen, living room, 2 bathroom, stairs bringing you to the mastersuite and an amazing view from the small terrace upstairs)… check their website!

The weather was beautiful (I was happily wearing my sandals again) and we spent the afternoon walking around, stopping at nice little cafés for white wine and just enjoying the sunshine…

City of arts and sciences designed by Calatrava

The City of Arts and Sciences is situated at the end of the former riverbed of the river Turia,  which was drained and rerouted after a catastrophic flood in 1957. A very long parc is now in the old river bed where you can rent bicycles or walk around…

The first evening, we decided to go to El Carme which is a very charming part of Valencia. Located in the Old Town, it is full of bars, restaurants and cool little shops. Here are some restaurants I can recommend:

La Mari i sus tacones: calle Alta, 28 / Io: calle Alta, 30 / Vuelve Carolina: calle Correos, 8

Go for fish and tapas, really great and fresh. Don’t forget that people go out late in Spain (10 PM), most of the restaurants will still be closed (or only serving tourists) before that time…
